What will remain is a document you have never opened, and that governs your subscription.
The document that governs
For the online services of one of the major vendors, the applicable rules appear in a product terms compendium, published online, revised on an ongoing basis. It covers termination, service levels and data processing.
Two features matter. It prevails over any sales statement. And it is changed without you being notified, the applicable version being the one in force on the date of your order.
Practical consequence: on the day you sign, archive the document as it stands that day. A dated PDF file in your contract folder is worth more than a link to a page that will have changed.
The four clauses to read before a renewal

What this gives you in negotiation
A question asked while citing the document is not handled at the same level as a question asked in general terms. It gets escalated, because the answer carries commitment.
The renewal is not the moment you discover the contract. It is the only moment you can change it.
